One of the industry's largest clubs, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World is one of the few clubs in the sector who have been successful through both organic and inorganic growth. Founded by a diverse executive team of Len Allsup, Pete Estler, and Ben Addoms, the club featured both entrepreneurs and corporate titans that helped lay the groundwork that guided the club's growth to the market leader it is today.

In April of 2005, the Boulder based destination club announced "a new era in private membership has arrived with the launch of Quintess, an exclusive destination club offering members vacation experiences and memories to last a lifetime."

Launching with a property portfolio of Aspen, Los Cabos, Manhattan, Biscayne Bay and Costa Rica, averaging $3.5 million each, Quintess quickly generated momentum at the top of the destination club industry.

Now with over 100 members, Quintess looked about an hour away to Greenwood Village, Colorado, home to Dream Catcher Retreats, a destination club that had also just cracked the 100 membership plateau, offering $3 million properties members. In fact, the two emerging clubs had even more in common as Quintess officially launched just 72 hours before Dream Catcher officially made their foray into the destination club industry. The near identical real estate prices and vision led to the announcement on August 31, 2006 of a $62 million merger between the two clubs.

The new club rebranded to form "Quintess, Catch The Dream" and now included about 230 and immediately became one of the top three clubs in the industry in terms of total members."Quintess and Dream Catcher share core values centered on a commitment to delight our members and a focus on remarkably luxurious, private freestanding homes," said Quintess CEO and Co-founder Pete Estler. "Both parties saw the opportunity to combine our strengths to create a club with a vastly improved range of member experiences and even greater financial strength. At a time when Dream Catcher and Quintess have both enjoyed tremendous growth and financial stability, this merger unequivocally does both."

Dream Catcher's 20 properties were joined with Quintess's 17 properties and yacht to give the club an estimated $110 million in real estate holdings.

Just months later in December of 2006, Quintess, Catch The Dream combined with a young club called The Leading Residences of the World and formed a long-term partnership with The Leading Hotels of the World. The new collected club had over 300 members and 49 properties and formed the club as it is currently constituted, Quintess, Leading Residences of the World.

In June of 2007, utilizing the experience the executive team had in investing, the club announced it had formed Quintess, LRW Future Fund 1, a $125 million financing earmarked for new home development. Less than a year later, the club's parent company, Club Holdings, LLC, received a commitment for $210 million in equity from an undisclosed Forbes 400 investor, the largest capital infusion in the history of the destination club industry.

A multiple time winner of Robb Report's Best of the Best award, Quintess announced a partnership with leading European club The Oyster Circle in January of 2009. The partnership would allow members of both clubs the opportunity to access the other's collection of luxury real estate, essentially bolstering the international travel offerings of both clubs.

NEWS

The third largest destination club in the world, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World surpassed the 500 member plateau in 2009 while in on of the worst economic climates in history.

Launched in April of 2005, Quintess would eventually merge with both Dream Catcher Retreats and The Leading Residences of the World to form the club as it is now constituted.

Featuring a stunning property portfolio and significant financial backing from an undisclosed Forbes 400 investor, Quintess has referred to themselves as the "Goldilocks of the destination club industry," large enough to provide members a great deal of travel experiences but small enough to offer members personalized services.

MEMBERSHIP PLANS

One of the leaders in the destination club industry, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World, offers multiple membership plans to their affluent base of members, ranging from 10 to 60 nights of base usage each year. Restructured in 2010, the club modified their membership plans to ease comparisons between other destination clubs.

The change gave members the ability to purchase an optional holiday access extension by paying a one-time fee that allowed for peak period travel every year or every other year, based on the plan selected. In addition, each of the club's six membership plans offered complimentary extended family usage and a 90 day space available reservation window.

Q10 Membership

The club's introductory membership offering, members receive 10 nights of annual access to the club's portfolio of $4 million residences. Members are able to make up to two advanced reservations per year.

MEMBERSHIP PRICING

Passing the 500 member mark in August of 2009, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World has been a popular membership option since their inception, propelling the club to the third largest in the world.

Publicly launched in April of 2005, Quintess would quickly emerge as a power player and would solidify their status by being a part of "the largest consolidation in the industry" with their merger with Dream Catcher Retreats in September of 2006. Just a few short months later, the combined clubs would also add a partnership with The Leading Hotels of the World, who had launched their own destination club Leading Residences of the World.

Now known as Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World, many would be drawn to the club for its attractive property portfolio and member benefits, including a fully refundable membership deposit within the first year of membership.

Quintess offers several membership plans, ranging from 10 to 60 nights of access each year to the club's properties, including complimentary extended family usage.

HOLIDAY ACCESS

Prior to a retooling of their membership offerings in 2010, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World allowed members the option of purchasing either holiday or non-holiday membership packages. In a move to make comparisons to other destination clubs easier and to give more flexibility to craft a membership specifically for their own unique travel needs, Quintess crafted a new model to come more in line with their competitors.

Members are able to purchase an optional enhancement to their membership, giving them access to peak holiday travel dates.

For a one-time fee of $70,000 when joining, members are able to travel during peak holiday periods once per year. For $40,000, members are able to travel during these holidays once every two years. The every year option is available to members with Q30 Memberships and higher. The every other year enhancement can be purchased by members with plans of 20 nights or more.

For those looking to travel for multiple holidays each year, multiple enhancements can be purchased. For example, if a member wanted to have two holiday travel privileges each year, they would pay $140,000 in addition to their membership fee.

This structure is similar to the one used at Exclusive Resorts, the world's largest destination club in terms of members and properties.

There are many unique holiday structures in the destination club industry, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

MEMBERS

One of the largest destination clubs in the industry, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World surpassed the 500 member mark in August of 2009, a tremendous feat as many other clubs during the same time period had ceased operation or filed for bankruptcy due to the market climate of 2008 and 2009.

During the year prior to the Quintess announcement of their 500th member, established clubs like Solstice Collection, High Country Club, and LUSSO Collection all filed for bankruptcy while upstart clubs like Botiga and Diamante Residences were unable to generate virtually any interest in their young clubs.

First introduced to the market in April of 2005, Quintess began their operations in 2004. Quietly growing their young club during their pre-launch, Quintess would already have an established base of members and properties when they began to openly market their luxury destination club. Less than a year after their public launch, they would surpass the 100 member mark, a notable threshold in the top heavy destination club sector.

Less than an hour away from Quintess headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, another destination club would enjoy similar success. Launched publicly just three days after Quintess, Dream Catcher Retreats would share more than geography with their Colorado rival.

Both would offer members exclusive access to a property portfolio of $3+ million vacation properties, five-star pre- and post-travel services, on site concierges, and ultimately a similar growth curve.

As Quintess was passing the 100 member mark, Dream Catcher would do the same and in September of 2006, the young destination club sector would see "the largest consolidation in the industry to date."

"Quintess and Dream Catcher Retreats, two of the foremost luxury destination clubs, announced today a merger of the two companies to create Quintess, Catch the Dream," the collected club announced.

"Quintess and Dream Catcher share core values centered on a commitment to delight our members and a focus on remarkably luxurious, private freestanding homes," said Quintess CEO and Co-Founder Pete Estler. "Both parties saw the opportunity to combine our strengths to create a club with a vastly improved range of member experiences and even greater financial strength. At a time when Dream Catcher and Quintess have both enjoyed tremendous growth and financial stability, this merger unequivocally does both. The clubs have recently taken over $10 million in new investment capital and we are well positioned to accelerate growth in Quintess membership, destinations, and luxury resort properties."

That growth would be further punctuated by a partnership with The Leading Hotels of the World who had created their own destination club, The Leading Residences of the World. Adding members from The Leading Residences of the World and entering into the new partnership would lead the club to rebrand themselves as Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World as they are known today.

The club has continued their consistent growth for a myriad of reasons, including one of the most widely praised property porfolios in the industry and attractive membership benefits including a 100% refundable membership deposit in the first year.

RESIGNATION

One of the more attractive elements to an already popular destination club, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World offers members a 100% refund on their membership deposit within the first year of membership if they elect to leave the club. According to Quintess, "a statement of confidence that you will love being part of the Club."

Following the first year of membership, members can resign their membership and receive 75% of their original membership deposit refunded.

Like many other destination clubs in the industry, Quintess has tinkered with their resignation policies over the years.

When first officially introduced to the market in April of 2005, the club had a similar structure, refunding 100% of a member's deposit within the first year. Following a member's second anniversary with the club, 80% of the then current membership deposit would be refunded to members if they elected to leave, allowing for the potential for a member to receive more back from the club than they originally paid.

Combining multiple resignation policies used through the industry to create their own hybrid membership option, Quintess would also evolve their structure to include a tiered outline that would refund exiting members a different amount based on the number of years they remained with the club.

Again, members could resign within the first year and receive 100% of their membership deposit refunded to them if membership was not a good fit for their travel needs. From years two through four, members could resign from the club and receive 80% of the original membership deposit refunded to them. Following the fifth anniversary within the club, members would again receive 100% of their deposit refunded to them.

There are multiple resignation models used throughout the destination club sector, some where none of the original costs of membership are obligated to be repaid by the club while others pledge to repay more than the member originally contributed, and everything in between.

PARTNERSHIPS

Counting two strong partnerships with luxury travel providers, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World is one of the largest destination clubs in the industry.

Created in 2004 and officially introduced to the market in April of 2005, Quintess quickly became an attractive option within the destination club industry. By March of 2006, the club had passed the 100 member mark and by September of 2006, the club would grow to over 230 members through a merger with Dream Catcher Retreats, a fellow destination club based less than an hour from Quintess headquarters.

Just a few short months later, the club would enter into a partnership that would provide additional travel perks to members and help create a new brand name in the destination club sector.

After launching their own destination club, The Leading Residences of the World, The Leading Hotels of the World would partner with Quintess. The Leading Residences of the World would combine with Quintess to form the new brand Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World.

According to the press release, Quintess and The Leading Hotels of the World would "enter into an exclusive marketing arrangement and all Quintess members will automatically become members of The Leading Hotels of the World’s highly acclaimed Leaders Club program–a customized level of benefits created especially for Club members, at no additional charge. This gives Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World members special privileges at the more than 440 Leading Hotels, including hotel upgrades, personalized gifts upon arrival, similar access at all Relais & Châteaux properties, a wide range of unique experiences at destinations, Leading Spas benefits, car hire and other exclusive offers."

Early in 2009, Quintess would announce another partnership that would increase the global travel options available to members with a strategic alliance with one of Europe's leading destination clubs, The Oyster Circle.

Members of both clubs would have reciprocal access to the other's portfolio of luxury vacation properties, greatly increasing the number of homes and destinations for both groups of members. At the time, the alliance of the two clubs offered members over 90 properties in more than 50 destinations around the world.

"We are pleased to announce this alliance with The Oyster Circle," said Ben Addoms, Founding Member and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Quintess, LRW. "The Oyster Circle, with its strong European base of homes and commitment to creating memorable luxury vacations for its members, is a great fit with Quintess, LRW and gives our members several new destination and home choices."

PRESS RELEASES

One of the leaders in the destination club industry, Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World brings a storied history to their successful club.

Officially launched in April of 2005, Quintess began their membership sales in June of 2004, making them one of the earliest clubs in the emerging destination club sector. The young club would quickly establish themselves as a player in the industry with a collection of $4 million luxury vacation properties available exclusively to members, free guest usage, and a 100% refundable membership deposit in the first year.

Less than an hour away from Quintess' headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, Dream Catcher Retreats had also launched their luxury destination club in April of 2005. Like Quintess, Dream Catcher had begun selling their memberships prior to their public launch and already had an establish base of members and real estate prior to their introduction.

Both of the clubs quickly surpassed the 100 member mark and in September of 2006, the two would announce a merger. The new brand Quintess, Catch the Dream counted over 230 members, 38 homes in 24 destinations, and an estimated $110 million in combined properties.

Before the end of the year, Quintess, Catch the Dream announced a partnership with The Leading Hotels of the World, who had created their own destination club called The Leading Residences of the World. The collected three clubs would be known as Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World, as they remain today.

Below you can find press releases from the club, including their launch, the introduction of their Q Leading Experiences program, and their recent 500 member achievement.
